What the Tour actually is
The Tour de France is the biggest annual sporting event on earth: three weeks, 21 stages and roughly 3,300 kilometres of racing around France each July. Riders compete for the overall win — the maillot jaune — as well as sprint points, mountain points, stage victories and team honours.
